4년 만에 버마를 방문한 파울로 세르지오 핀헤이로 유엔 인권 특사는 15일 자신의 방문 일정을 마무리 하며 버마의 악명 높은 인세인 감옥소를 다시 방문했습니다.
핀헤이로 특사가 재소자들을 만났는지 여부는 아직 알려지지 않았습니다.
핀헤이로 특사는 앞서 지난 12일에도 이 감옥소를 방문했으나 감옥소 관리들만 만났었습니다. 유엔 당국자들에 따르면 핀헤이로 특사는 당시 구금된 정치범들을 만날 수 있을 것이라고 들었다고 밝혔습니다.
버마 당국은 이번주 핀 헤이로 특사의 버마 방문 기간 중에도 활동가들을 더 체포해 구금했었습니다. 이는 국제 사회의 정치범 석방과 구금 중지 촉구에 공개적으로 저항하는 것입니다.
핀헤이로 특사는 앞서 14일 버마 주재 찰스 페트리 유엔대사 등 20명 이상의 외교관들을 만났습니다.

U.N. human rights envoy Paulo Sergio Pinheiro has visited Burma's notorious Insein Prison today (Thursday) in an effort to talk with political detainees before wrapping up his first visit to the country in four years.
It was not immediately clear whether he was able to meet with any inmates.
Pinheiro was allowed to visit the same facility on Monday, but was only permitted to meet with prison officials. U.N. officials later said they have been assured that Pinheiro would be able to meet with political detainees.
Burma arrested several more activists this week while Pinheiro was in the country, openly challenging international calls for the release of prisoners and a halt to detentions.
