미국 정부는 북한의 비핵화 진전에 따라 북한을 테러지원국 명단에서 삭제한다는 계획입니다. 하지만 일본 단체들은 미국 의원을 상대로 이 계획을 다시 고려하라는 로비를 벌여왔습니다.
이와 관련해서 다나 페리노 미국 백악관 대변인은 15일 미국 정부는 납북자 문제에 대해 깊은 우려가 있음을 이해한다고 말했습니다.
한편 후쿠다 총리는 아프가니스탄 주둔 미군을 지원하는 일본 해양자위대 임무를 재개하기 위해 최선의 노력을 기울이겠다는 뜻을 부시 대통령에게 전달할 것으로 보입니다.
일본에서는 지난달 관련 법안이 만료됐지만, 야권에서는 미군 지원이 평화헌법을 위반하는 행위라면서 법안 갱신에 반대하고 있습니다.

White House spokeswoman Dana Perino said today (Thursday) the administration understands there are deep feelings about the issue.
Mr. Fukuda also is widely expected to assure Mr. Bush that his government is doing all it can to renew a Japanese naval refueling mission that supported U.S. forces in Afghanistan.
Legislation for the mission expired this month. Japan's opposition argues the mission lacks a U.N. mandate and violates the nation's pacifist constitution.
