파울로 세르히오 핀헤이로 유엔 인권특사가 버마의 수도 네피도에서 버마 군사지도자들을 만나고 있는 가운데, 3명의 민주화 운동가들이 체포됐다고, 목격자들이 전했습니다.
목격자들은 이들 3명의 운동가들이 14일, 랑군의 한 과일시장에서 반정부 유인물을 배포하다가 체포됐다고 말했습니다. 버마 최대 도시인 랑군에서는 지난 8월과 9월에 경제와 정치적 개혁을 요구하는 대규모 시위가 벌어졌습니다.
당시 버마 군사지도자들은 시위를 무자비하게 진압했습니다. 핀헤이로 특사는 시위 진압 과정에서 몇 명이 사망하고 얼마나 많은 사람들이 투옥됐는지 조사하기 위해 버마를 방문하고 있습니다.

Witnesses in Burma say three more activists have been arrested as U.N. human rights envoy Paulo Sergio Pinheiro meets with Burmese military leaders in the remote capital of Naypyidaw.
Witnesses say the activists were arrested today (Wednesday) while handing out anti-government pamphlets at a fruit market in Rangoon, the main Burmese city where protesters rallied in August and September to call for economic and political reform.
Burma's military leaders brutally put down the protests, and now Pinheiro is in the country to investigate how many people were killed and thrown in jail during the crackdown.
The U.N. says Pinheiro has been assured that he will be allowed to visit political prisoners before his scheduled departure from the country on Thursday.
