일본의 제1야당인 민주당은 2일 후쿠다 야스오 총리의 연립정부 구성 제안을 거부했습니다.
현지 언론에따르면 후쿠다 총리는 이날 오자와 이치로 민주당 대표를 만나 연립정부 구성을 제의했습니다. 연립정부는 여당과 야당이 손을 잡고 정부를 운영하는 것을 의미합니다.
후쿠다 총리는 기자들에게 “현 상황을 타개하기 위해 무언가를 해야만 한다”며 “정치를 위한 '새로운 체제'를 제안했다”고 말했습니다. 그러나 야당인 민주당의 오자와 대표는 회담후 “당 집행부내에는 여당과 정책 협의를 시작하는 것 조차 반대하는 목소리가 높았다”며 거부 의사를 밝혔습니다.
야당이 연립정부 제안을 거부함에 따라 일본 정부와 여당은 인도양에서 미국을 지원하는데 야당의 협조를 얻는 것이 불가능해져 향후 정국운영이 어려워질 전망입니다.
Japan's main opposition party has rejected a proposal from Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda to form a coalition government.
Mr. Fukuda made the offer during a meeting today (Friday) with Ichiro Ozawa, leader of the main opposition Democratic Party.
The meeting was aimed at breaking a deadlock in parliament since the opposition won control of the upper house in July, allowing it to stall key legislation.
Among the bills being blocked is a measure that would extend Japan's support role in anti-terrorism operations in and around Afghanistan.
Since 2001, Japanese ships in the Indian Ocean have been refueling vessels that support U.S.-led forces in Afghanistan. But the law authorizing that mission expired this week, and Mr. Fukuda has been trying to get the opposition to agree to renew it.
