이라크에서 군용차를 관통하는 치명적인 폭발물 공격이 크게 줄어들었다고, 이라크 주둔 미군 고위 지휘관이 밝혔습니다.
레이 오디어노 중장은 1일 가진 화상기자회견에서, 이런 폭발물의 공격이나 적발 사례가 지난 8월의 99건에서 10월에는 53건으로 줄었다고 밝혔습니다.
앞서 미국은 이란이 이라크 내 테러분자들에게 무기를 공급했다고 주장했으며, 이란 정부는 이를 부인해왔습니다. 오디어노 중장은 하지만 이란이 테러분자들에 대한 무기 공급을 줄였는지는 확실치 않다고 말했습니다.
이와 별도로 이라크 수도 바그다드와 인근 지역에서는 1일 폭탄 공격으로 최소한 16명이 숨지고, 26명이 부상을 입었습니다.
또 현지 미군에 따르면 하루전인 10월 31일 이라크 북부 니네바 지역에서 군차량에 가해진 폭탄 공격으로 미군 2명이 숨지고 2명이 부상을 입었습니다. 같은날 살라후딘 지방에서도 도로변 폭탄 공격으로 미군 1명이 숨졌습니다.

A top U.S. military commander in Iraq says there has been a sharp decline in the use of deadly armor-piercing explosives in Iraq in the last three months.
Lieutenant General Ray Odierno told reporters today (Thursday via video conference from Iraq) that the number of explosively-formed penetrators that were found or detonated in Iraq has declined since August, when 99 devices were found. He said 53 were found in October.
The United States accuses Iran of supplying the weapons to insurgents in Iraq, a charge Tehran denies. Odierno (the deputy commander of the U.S. forces in Iraq) said it is unclear if Iran has slowed its alleged supply of the explosives.
In violence today, Iraqi security officials say bomb attacks in Baghdad and its northern suburbs killed at least 16 people and wounded at least 26 others.
Separately, the U.S. military says two American soldiers were killed and two others wounded when a bomb exploded near their vehicle in the northern province of Ninevah on Wednesday. A third soldier was killed in a roadside bombing Wednesday in the northern Salahuddin province.
