엄청난 산불이 휩쓸고 지나간 남부 캘리포니아 주의 주민들이 다시 집으로 돌아오고 있지만, 당국은 일부 지역에서는 아직도 위험이 남아있다고 경고했습니다.
일부 주민들은 그들의 집들이 로스앤젤레스 남쪽에서부터 멕시코 국경까지 번진 산불로 파괴된 수천 채의 가옥 속에 들어있는지 아닌지에 관해 이미 소식을 듣고 있습니다.
이재민들의 대거 귀환은 가장 큰 피해를 낸 샌디에고 당국으로 하여금 이 도시의 칼콤 체육관에 임시로 설치된 쉼터를 폐쇄하게 해주었습니다.
이번 산불로 최소 12명이 사망한 것으로 알려지고 있습니다. 사망자 가운데에는 멕시코 국경 부근의 밀입국 이민자수용소 부근에서 발견된 3명의 남자와 한 명의 여자가 들어있습니다. 남부 캘리포니아의 24군데에서 발생한 이번 산불는 20만 헥타르를 불태웠습니다.
당국은 최소 1건의 방화 사례를 확인했으며, 이번 산불과 관련해 5명이 체포됐습니다.

The U.S. military says coalition forces have killed six suspected terrorists and detained 22 others during operations to disrupt terrorist networks in central and northern Iraq.
A statement says coalition troops southwest of Mosul killed four suspects today (Friday) in an operation targeting a man believed responsible for al-Qaida in Iraq security functions. It says troops discovered grenades and other weapons in a vehicle used by the suspects.
In another operation, the military says coalition forces killed two suspected terrorists and wounded another in Mosul Thursday.
Separately, the military says one U.S. soldier was killed and another four wounded when their convoy in southern Baghdad was struck Thursday by an armor-piercing bomb (known as an explosively-formed penetrator).
Elsewhere, Iraqi police say a roadside bomb killed two policemen and wounded three others north of the city of Diwaniya.
