파키스탄 군 대변인 와히드 아르샤드 소장은 24일, 아프가니스탄 국경 부근 스와트 계곡 일대에서 준 군사 부대가 지역 안정을 위해 검문소를 설치하고 있다고 밝혔습니다.
무장세력들은 준군사부대의 배치에 반발해 23일 이 계곡으로 향하던 파키스탄 군 차량 부근에서 원격조종으로 폭탄을 터뜨려 4명의 군인에게 부상을 입혔습니다.
보수적인 북서부 변경지역인 스와트 계곡은 아프가니스탄의 탈레반 무장세력과 밀착된 급진단체 ‘테리크 니파즈-에-샤리아 운동’, TNSM의 거점입니다.

The Pakistani army has deployed more than two thousand troops into a remote northwestern valley that is a stronghold of pro-Taliban militants.
An Army spokesman (Major General Waheed Arshad) said today (Wednesday) paramilitary troops were setting up checkpoints across the Swat valley near the border with Afghanistan, to help stabilize the region.
Militants responded to the deployment Tuesday by detonating a remote-controlled bomb near a troop convoy heading into the valley, wounding four soldiers.
The valley in the conservative North West Frontier Province is a stronghold of the banned radical group, Tehrik Nifaz-e-Sharia Mohammed, or TNSM, which has close ties to Afghanistan's Taliban militants.
Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf banned TNSM and jailed its founder (Sufi Mohammad) in 2002, after the group sent thousands of volunteers to Afghanistan to fight U.S.-led forces that ousted the country's Taliban rulers.
