이스라엘과 시리아 정부는 이번 공습에 대해 침묵을 지켜왔으며, 이는 양국 간 긴장 상황을 고조시켰습니다.
바바칸 외무부 장관은 8일 이스라엘을 방문해 이스라엘 당국자들과 지난 달 시리아 공습에 대해 명확히 할 계획입니다. 터키는 이스라엘과 좋은 관계를 유지하고 있으며, 양국은 지난 1996년 군사 동맹을 맺은 바 있습니다.
바바칸 외무부 장관은 아샤르 아사드 시리아 대통령과 만나 터키 정부는 시리아 정부와도 강한 유대 관계를 맺길 희망한다고 말했습니다.
Turkey's foreign minister has assured the Syrian government that his government will not allow Israel to use Turkish airspace to attack Syria.
Ali Babacan said Sunday in Damascus that Ankara had no prior knowledge of the September 6th Israeli air strike on a Syrian military target. Israel and Syria have kept largely silent about the air strike, which raised tensions between them.
Babacan next visits Israel, where he plans to ask Israeli officials today (Monday) for
clarification of the air strike. Turkey has good relations with Israel and the two countries signed a military cooperation deal in 1996.
Babacan said after meeting Syrian President Bashar Assad that Ankara also wants to maintain strong ties with Damascus. Turkish-Syrian relations have improved recently after years of animosity caused by water disputes and past Syrian support for Kurdish rebels.
