파키스탄의 중앙선거관리위원회는 무샤라프 대통령이 의회 선거인단 투표에서 257표 가운데 252표를 얻었으며 지방의회4곳 가운데 3곳에서 압승을 거뒀다고 밝혔습니다.
하지만 무샤라프 대통령의 승리는 대법원의 판결에 따라 결정될 전망입니다.
야당측이 무샤라프 대통령이 군 참모총장직을 유지한 채 출마한 것은 불법이라고 헌법 소원을 제기했고, 파키스탄 대법원은 이에 대한 판결이 내려진 후에 투표 결과를 공개할 수 있다고 결정했기 때문입니다.
헌법소원에 대한 대법원의 심리는 오는 17일로 예정돼 있습니다.
한편 무샤라프 대통령은 자신을 지지해준 의원들에게 감사의 뜻을 전했으며 자신은 투표에서 대다수의 지지를 받았으며, 민주주의란 대다수의 뜻을 따르는 것이라고 소감을 밝혔습니다.

Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf has won a landslide victory in Saturday's presidential election, but the Supreme Court will now decide whether he can hold the office.
Election Commission officials say General Musharraf won 252 of the 257 votes in parliament, and also won a majority of votes in provincial assemblies.
He cannot be officially declared the winner until the Supreme Court rules on legal challenges to his eligibility to seek office while still army chief. The hearings on the issue will resume October 17th.
Declaring victory at a news conference in Islamabad, President Musharraf thanked members of parliament for voting in his favor, and he urged opposition parties to give up what he called the politics of confrontation.
He also said the fight against terrorism will continue, and he appealed to Pakistanis to reject calls for strikes and disruptive activities.
When asked about the legitimacy of the election, the president said he received the majority of votes and that "democracy means majority."
