Pakistani authorities say a suicide bomber disguised in a woman's burqa (a traditional Muslim head-to-toe garment) struck the town of Bannu in the northwest today (Monday), killing at least 16 people.
Among the dead are four policemen. At least 29 people were wounded.
Police say the attacker arrived at a checkpoint in a rickshaw and detonated after police stopped the vehicle to search it.
Bannu is in Pakistan's North Waziristan region, where the Pakistani army is battling al-Qaida and Taleban militants.
Insurgents in the area frequently target government troops and others the militants accuse of supporting the Pakistani government or helping U.S. forces fighting in neighboring Afghanistan.
