9월 미군 사상자 수는 60여명 이상으로 1년만에 최저 수치를 나타냈습니다. 미군 대변인은 이라크 내 미군 증강으로 이 처럼 폭력이 감소했다고 밝혔습니다. 하지만 이 대변인은 이라크 내 폭력 수준은 여전히 높다고 말했습니다.
이와는 별도로 모술 시 북부에서 한 자살폭탄테러분자의 공격으로 대학교 교수 1명이 사망하고 다른 7명이 부상했습니다.
