미국과 한국등 17개국이 27일 이곳 워싱턴에 모여 ‘에너지 안보및 기후변화 회의’를 엽니다.
미국의 조지 부시 대통령이 주도하는 이번 회의에서는 기후 변화를 막기위해 각국의 온실가스 배출 문제와 함께 기술적 대처 방안과 금융지원 방안을 논의할 예정입니다.
조지 부시 미국 대통령은 28일 기조 연설을 통해 기후 변화에 대한 미국의 입장을 밝힐 예정입니다. 그동안 미국은 경제적 이유를 들어 온실가스 배출을 강제적으로 줄이는데 반대해 왔습니다.
한국의 송민순 외무부 장관은 회의 첫째날인 27일 '온실가스 및 에너지 안보에 대한 한국의 우선순위'라는 주제로 기조연설을 할 계획입니다.
참가국들은 또 오는 10월과 11월 실무자급 회의와 2008년 1-4월중에 주요국 회의와 정상회의 등을 개최하는 방안을 검토하고 있습니다. 이번 회의에는 미국과 한국, 중국, 유럽연합(EU) 회원국들과 중남미 국가등 17개국이 참석합니다.

Representatives of more than a dozen nations will gather in Washington today (Thursday) for the start of a two-day conference on climate change called for by President Bush.
The participating nations represent the world's major industrial powers and biggest producers of greenhouse gases, which are blamed for global warming.
The conference will focus on using new technologies and financing to achieve long-term goals to reduce the effects of climate change. But it is not expected to set mandatory limits on greenhouse gas emissions, an issue strongly opposed by the U.S. and several other industrial nations, who feel it will harm their economies.
Mr. Bush will address the conference on Friday.
