한편 잘랄 탈라바니 이라크 대통령은 미군은 북부 지역 치안임무를 이미 쿠르드 족에게 넘겼기 때문에, 파르하디를 체포한 것은 불법이라고 말했습니다.

A U.S. general is defending the detention of an Iranian national in Iraq, after the arrest angered Baghdad and prompted Iran to close its border with northern Iraq.
U.S. military spokesman, Major General Kevin Bergner, said today (Wednesday) that Mahmudi Farhadi is an operative of the Quds force of Iran's Revolutionary Guards. He said Farhadi was directly involved in providing weapons and training to insurgents in Iraq.
Bergner accused Iran of undermining Iraqi security and causing economic hardship by closing its border to northern Iraq to protest the detention.
U.S. troops last week detained Farhadi in Iraq's Kurdistan region.
Iraq's President Jalal Talabani called the detention illegal, saying that the U.S. has transferred security duties in the northern region to the Kurds.
Tehran says Farhadi was a member of a trade delegation.
