미국 상원은 21일, 6개월 이내 이라크 주둔 미군의 조기철군 이행요구를 담은 법안을 부결시켰습니다.
상원 군사위원장인 민주당의 칼 레빈 의원이 제안한 이 법안은 찬성과 반대가 똑같은 47대 47로 나와 법안 통과에 필요한 60표를 확보하지 못했습니다.
이에 앞서 조지 부시 대통령의 이라크 전략에 도전하기 위한 한 법안도 부결됐습니다. 상원의 공화당 의원들은 지난 19일, 미군이 군복무중 미국내에서 더 많은 시간을 보내도록 하자는 한 법안을 부결시켰습니다.
상원은 20일, 내년 6월까지 이라크 주둔 미군을 철수하고 전쟁을 종결하자는 한 법안을 28대 70으로 부결시켰습니다.

The U.S. Senate has blocked a measure that would have ordered most U.S. troops to leave Iraq by next June.
Democrats failed to gather enough support for the legislation, which had the potential to change the course of the war in Iraq.
Michigan Democrat Carl Levin introduced the bill, but it fell 13 votes short of the 60 needed to end final debate and move the measure forward for a final vote.
Two earlier Democratic-sponsored measures aimed at challenging President Bush's strategy for the war have also been defeated. Senate Republicans blocked a measure on Wednesday that would have allowed troops more time at home between deployments. On Thursday, a measure that also would have withdrawn troops from Iraq by next June, and end funding for the war, was rejected by a vote of 28 to 70.
