오스트리아를 방문한 교황 베네딕트 16세가 유럽 지역 신자들에게 가톨릭의 전통적 가치를 회복할 것을 촉구했습니다.
교황은 8일 오스트리아 수도 비엔나에서 남서쪽으로 150킬로미터 떨어진 850년 역사의 성모 마리아 대성당에서 미사를 집전했습니다.
유럽에서 출산율 저하와 낙태 등으로 어린이의 비율이 줄어드는 것과 관련해서 교황은 “어린이가 없으면, 유럽의 미래는 어둡다”며 신앙의 중요성을 강조했습니다.
지난 7일부터 사흘간 오스트리아를 방문한 교황은 앞서 유대교 지도자들과도 만나 ‘슬픔과 회계, 우정’에 대해 얘기했습니다.
교황은 또 제2차세계대전 당시 유대인 학살로 희생된 6만5천명의 오스트리아 유대인들을 기리는 기념관도 방문했습니다.

Pope Benedict says Europe has become "child-poor," and he urged pilgrims at a rain-drenched mass in the Austrian mountains to return to traditional values.
The pope conducted mass today (Saturday) before thousands of the faithful in Mariazell at an 850-year-old shrine to the Virgin Mary. The shrine is located about 150 kilometers southwest of (the Austrian capital of) Vienna.
He said Europe's future would be bleak without more children, and he called on Europeans to embrace faith.
On Friday, Pope Benedict expressed "sadness, repentance and friendship" to the Jewish people at the start of his three-day trip to Austria.
The pope paid a silent tribute to some 65-thousand Austrian victims of the Holocaust after arriving in Vienna.
