5명의 후보 가운데는 이해찬 전 총리와 한명숙 전 총리 등 2명의 전직 총리가 포함됐습니다. 이밖에 정동영 전 통일부 장관, 유시민 전 보건복지부 장관, 손학규 전 경기도지사도 5명의 후보의 포함됐습니다.
대통합민주신당은 오는 10월에 본 경선의 승자를 발표할 예정입니다.
최근 여론조사에서는 제1야당인 한나라당의 대통령 후보인 이명박 후보가 오는 12월의 대통령 선거에서 승리할 가능성이 높은 것으로 나타났습니다.

South Korea's largest liberal party has selected five presidential candidates to face off in a series of primaries.
The United New Democratic Party announced its top choices today (Wednesday), ahead of December's general elections.
Among the five are two former prime ministers, Lee Hae-chan and Han Myeong-sook. The list also includes former unification minister Chung Dong-young, former health minister Rhyu Si-min, and Sohn Hak-kyu, a former governor of Gyeonggi province.
The party is to announce the winner of its primaries in October.
Recent public opinion polls show Lee Myung-bak of the conservative opposition Grand National Party is favored to win the election.
Incumbent President Roh Moo-hyun is constitutionally barred from seeking re-election.
