회계감사원은 4일, 이라크에서는 아직도 폭력이 난무하고 있다고 밝히고, 이라크 정부는 18개 항목의 평가기준 가운데 3개만 충족시켰고, 4개는 부분적으로 달성했다고 지적했습니다.
회계감사원의 데이비드 워커 원장은 이날 오후에 상원 외교관계위원회에 출석해 증언을 하고 있습니다.

The number-two U.S. commander in Iraq says the next three to four months will be key in determining whether the United States can withdraw troops from that country without sacrificing security.
Lieutenant General Raymond Odierno said today (Tuesday) attacks in August fell to their lowest number in more than a year. He said if the trend continues, the United States will be able to maintain security with fewer troops.
On Monday, President Bush visited Iraq and said that some U.S. troops could be sent home if conditions continue to improve.
An independent U.S. agency says the Iraqi government has failed to meet most of the benchmarks set by the United States to mark progress.
The report of the Government Accountability Office (GAO) says violence remains high in Iraq. It says the Iraqi government has met three of the 18 benchmarks, and has partially met four others.
The head of the GAO, David Walker, is testifying about the report to the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. The GAO is known as the investigative arm of Congress.
The White House has acknowledged that not all benchmarks have been met, but has urged Americans to wait for a report on Iraq this month from U.S. Ambassador to Iraq Ryan Crocker and the top U.S. military commander in Iraq, General David Petraeus.
President Bush on Monday made an unannounced visit to Iraq.
