영국군의 전직 장성 2명이 미국의 이라크 정책을 강력히 비판하고 나섰습니다.
이라크의 전후 계획에 참여했었던 영국군의 팀 크로스 장군은 2일 영국 언론과의 기자회견에서 미국의 이라크 정책이 ‘치명적인 약점’을 갖고 있다고 밝혔습니다.
크로스 소장은 이라크 침공 전 워싱턴에서 당시 도널드 럼즈펠드 미국 국방장관에게 이라크전 이후 발생할 문제에 대해 우려를 제기했으나 간단히 무시됐다고 말했습니다.
이에 앞서 2003년 이라크 침공 당시 영국군 참모총장을 지낸 마이크 잭슨 대장도 영국의 한 신문을 통해 미국의 전후 이라크 정책이 "매우 근시안적"이라고 강한 어조로 미국을 비난했습니다.
잭슨장군은 후세인 정권 몰락 후 이라크를 통제할 만한 충분한 병력이 배치되지 못했다며 이라크군을 해산시킨 것은 큰 잘못이라고 비판했습니다.

A second British general has blasted Washington's Iraq policy, saying in a newspaper interview published today (Sunday) that it was fatally flawed.
Major General Tim Cross, the top British officer involved in postwar planning, told the "Sunday Mirror" that he raised serious concerns with then U.S. defense secretary Donald Rumsfeld about the possibility of Iraq falling into chaos, but was ignored.
On Saturday, retired General Mike Jackson, the commander of British troops in the allied invasion of Iraq said the Bush administration deployed an insufficient number of troops to maintain law and order after toppling Saddam Hussein's regime. He also said the U.S. ignored diplomats' plans for the post-conflict administration of Iraq.
