이란은 핵개발을 위해 3천기의 원심분리기를 가동하고 있다고 2일 밝혔습니다.
이란의 마무드 아마디네자드 대통령은 이날 이슬람 학생들을 상대로 한 연설에서 “우라늄 농축을 위해 원심분리기 3천기를 가동하고 있다”고 말했습니다. 원심분리기는 핵무기를 만들기 위한 핵심 장치 입니다.
그러나 국제원자력기구 IAEA는 이란이 밝힌 원심분리기 숫자가 과장됐다고 보고있습니다. 국제원자력기구는 이란이 2천여기의 원심분리기를 가동하는 것으로 평가하고 있습니다.
이에 앞서 이란 외무부는 “만일 유엔 안보리가 새로운 제재를 추진한다면 우리는 다른 선택을 검토할 것”이라고 말했습니다.
외무부 대변인은 유엔 안보리에 의한 어떤 조치도 상황을 악화시킬 것이라고 말했습니다. 그러나 그는 이란이 어떤 선택을 고려하는 지는 구체적으로 밝히지 않았습니다.

The United States and its allies accuse Iran of seeking to build nuclear weapons under the cover of a civilian program. Iran denies the charge.
