브라운 총리는 2일 성명을 통해 평화적인 시위에 대한 폭력적인 진압을 심히 유감스럽게 생각한다고 말했습니다. 브라운 총리는 버마 정부가 경제적인 경영 부실과 인권을 유린하고 있다고 비난했습니다.
브라운 총리는 버마 정부에 대해 지난 달 19일 시위가 시작된 이후 연행된 백 여 명의 시위자들을 석방할 것도 촉구했습니다.
미국도 역시 이들 시위자들에 대한 체포를 비난하고 있습니다.

British Prime Minister Gordon Brown has criticized the Burmese government for its crackdown on recent protests over rising fuel costs.
In a statement today (Sunday), Mr. Brown said he "deeply deplores" what he called Burma's "violent suppression of peaceful demonstrations." He accused the government of economic mismanagement and human rights violations
The British prime minister called for the release of the more than 100 people arrested since the start of the protests on August 19th.
He said he supports calls for the United Nations Security Council to examine the situation.
The United States has also condemned the arrests.
