아베 신조 일본 총리는 이 날 인도 국회에서 가진 연설에서 이같은 동맹을 통해 자유, 민주주의, 기본적인 인권의 존중을 중시하는 가치관을 공유할 수 있다고 말했습니다.
아베 총리는 또 인도, 일본, 미국, 호주 간 4개국은 서로간의 연대를 통해 해상수송로를 확보할 수 있으며, 이는 세계 경제에 필수적이라고 말했습니다.
전문가들은 아베 총리가 중국의 지역 영향이 커지는 데 대한 대항으로 인도와의 동맹을 강화하려고 하고 있다고 분석했습니다.
Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has called on India to form a strategic and economic alliance with Japan, the United States and Australia.
Speaking to a joint session of India's parliament, Mr. Abe said the alliance would share values such as freedom, democracy and a respect for basic human rights. He said the four nations working together could protect shipping lanes, vital to the world economy.
Lawmakers greeted the alliance idea largely with silence.
Analysts say Mr. Abe is trying to strengthen relations with India to counter Beijing's growing influence in the region.
Later, Mr. Abe and Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh are expected to announce Japan's support for a multi-billion-dollar rail freight corridor linking New Delhi Mumbai and Kolkata.
