구조 요원들은 무너진 건물 잔해 속에 매몰된 사람들을 구하기 위해 사투를 벌이고 있으며, 거리 곳곳에는 희생자들의 시신이 줄지어 놓여 있습니다.
이번 지진으로 부상을 당한 사람만도 천 오백명 정도로 치료가 시급한 실정입니다.
피스코 지방과 함께 페루 중앙 해안을 따라 다른 항구 도시들로 이어지는 도로도 차단됐습니다.
지난 수요일 2분 간 지속된 규모 8.0의 강진은 페루 수도 리마에서 남쪽으로 145킬로미터 떨어진 곳에서 발생해 페루 전역 특히 이카와 피스코, 친차 지방에 큰 피해를 남겼습니다.
이번 지진으로 무너진 건물 중에는 신자들이 모여 미사가 진행되던 성당이 포함돼 있어 피해를 더했고 국가 전체가 암흑천지로 변했습니다.
알란 가르시아 대통령은 국가비상사태를 선포하고, 3일간의 희생자 국가 애도 기간을 선포했습니다.

Authorities in Peru say the death toll from Wednesday's devastating earthquake has risen to at least 510 people, as survivors and rescuers cope with hundreds of aftershocks.
An especially powerful five-point-nine magnitude aftershock complicated rescue efforts today (Friday). It is not clear if the aftershock caused additional damage or injury.
Rescuers are struggling to reach hundreds of people believed to be trapped in the wreckage of ruined buildings. With no place to put victims' bodies, workers are just covering the corpses and laying them out in rows on the ground.
Some 15-hundred people were injured in the earthquake and are struggling to find medical care. Damage to roads has crippled access to Pisco and other port cities along Peru's central coast.
President Alan Garcia has declared a state of emergency and a three-day period of national mourning.
Wednesday's earthquake lasted two minutes and had a magnitude of eight-point-zero. It was centered inland, 145 kilometers south of the capital, Lima and caused heavy damage to the towns of Ica, Pisco and Chincha.
