필리핀 당국은 반군단체인 아부 사야프 소속 전투원들이 공수품을 운반하던 군 장병들을 습격하며 양측간에 충돌이 발생했다고 말했습니다. 이번 교전으로 반군측에서도 최소한 27명이 사망했습니다.
최근 필리핀 남부지역에서는 폭력사태가 연쇄적으로 발생하고 있습니다.
지난 7월초 14명의 해병대 병사들이 바시란섬에서 반군의 공격을 받고 숨진 이후 많은 군인들이 숨졌습니다. 당시 숨진 해병대 요원 14명 가운데 10명이 참수당한 채 발견됐었습니다.
The Philippine military says 52 people, including 25 soldiers, have been killed in clashes between government troops and militants on the country's volatile southern island of Jolo.
Officials say fighting broke out Thursday when rebels from the Abu Sayyaf militant group ambushed a group of soldiers transporting supplies. At least 27 rebels were killed in a gunbattle later that day.
The clashes are the latest in a recent wave of violence in the southern Philippines.
Troops have been massing in the south since early July when 14 marines were killed on the nearby island of Basilan. Ten of them were beheaded.
The military and government have blamed Abu Sayyaf and another rebel group, the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF), for the killings.
