아프가니스탄 및 한국 당국자들과 21명의 한국인 인질을 억류하고 있는 이슬람 무장세력 탈레반은 계속 인질 석방협상을 위한 장소를 찾고 있습니다.
양측은 지난 4일에도 모두가 받아들일 수 있는 협상 장소를 찾기 위해 노력했습니다. 탈레반은 아프간 정부가 통제하는 지역에서 만나기를 꺼리고 있습니다.
한국 대표단은 며칠 째 아프간에 머물면서 지난 달 19일 한국인들을 납치한 탈레반 인질범들과 만날 수 있기를 기대하고 있습니다.
한국의 천호선 청와대 대변인은 한국 당국자들은 한국 정부는 인질을 풀어주는 대신 아프간 정부에 구금돼 있는 탈레반 수감자들을 석방하라는 요구를 들어줄 수 있는 능력이 없다는 점을 탈레반에게 전달했다고 말했습니다.
한편, 이보다 앞서 지난 4일, 신원이 확인되지 않은 한국인 여성 인질 1명은 인질들 가운데 많은 사람들이 병들었다면서, 현재와 같은 여건 속에서 얼마나 오랫동안 생존할 수 있을지 알 수 없다고 미국의 소리 아프가니스탄 방송에 말했습니다.

Afghan and South Korean officials and the Taleban kidnappers of 21 South Korean hostages are still seeking a meeting place for negotiations to release the hostages.
The parties worked Saturday to find a negotiating venue acceptable to all sides. The Taleban has been reluctant to meet in an area controlled by the Afghan government.
A South Korean delegation has been in Afghanistan for several days hoping to meet with the Taleban captors of the Korean aid workers held since July 19th.
A South Korean presidential spokesman (Cheon Ho-Seon) said officials told the Taleban that Seoul is not able to meet demands to free militant prisoners held by Afghanistan in exchange for the Korean hostages.
