동남아시아 국가와 세계 여러 나라의 외무장관들은 이번 아세안지역안보포럼에서 아시아에 핵감시기구를 창설하는 문제를 논의할 예정입니다.
이번 안보 포럼에는 중국과 러시아, 미국, 유럽연합 등17개국 대표들이 참석했습니다.
동남아시아국가들은 이 지역에서 더 많은 국가들이 원자력을 에너지원인 평화적 목적으로 이용할 것을 확실히 하기를 바라고 있습니다. 이를 위해 아세안은 유엔 국제원자력기구와 긴밀히 협력하고, 이 지역의 핵안전을 강화하게 되기를 바란다고 말했습니다.

Southeast Asian foreign ministers and counterparts from around the globe are discussing a proposal to create a nuclear watchdog agency for Asia.
The 10-member Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) is hosting today's (Wednesday's) meeting in Manila. Delegates of 17 other countries, including China, Russia, the United States and members of the European Union are attending.
Southeast Asia is looking for ways to ensure that nuclear power is used for peaceful means as more countries in the region look to it as a source of energy.
To do this, ASEAN says it wants to work more closely with the United Nations nuclear watchdog body, and strengthen the region's nuclear safeguards.
U.S. Deputy Secretary of State John Negroponte attended the meeting and praised ASEAN leaders for trying to promote peace, prosperity and stability in the region.
