A rights group says thousands of protesters in southwest China have clashed with police over a brewery's alleged pollution of their water supplies.
The Hong Kong-based Information Center for Human Rights and Democracy said clashes Friday in Yuanshi, a town in Sichuan province, had injured 20 people and led to the detention of seven. Police fought with demonstrators who said China Resources Breweries had contaminated drinking and irrigation water.
Local authorities, police and the brewery refused to comment on the incident, which is the latest in growing unrest over China's polluted environment.
