한국인 23명을 인질로 구금하고 있는 아프가니스탄의 탈레반 무장세력은 24일 아프간 정부에 한국인 인질 8명을 수감 중인 탈레반 전사 8명과 맞교환할 것을 제안했습니다.
인질 석방 협상에 나선 아프가니스탄과 한국 정부 관리들을 대변하고 있는 현지 부족의 한 지도자는 이날 무장세력이 석방을 원하는 8명의 명단을 자신에게 보내왔다고 밝혔습니다.
탈레반의 대변인을 자처하는 유세프 아마디 씨는 현재 인질 석방 협상이 미묘한 단계에 이르렀다며, 아프가니스탄 정부가 탈레반 수감자 8명을 석방할 경우 앞으로 추가 맞교환이 이뤄지게 될 것이라고 말했습니다.
앞서 탈레반 무장세력은 한국시각으로 24일 밤 11시30분을 협상시한으로 정했었지만, 시한이 지난 현재까지 아무런 공식 발표도 하지 않고 있습니다.
이들은 한국 정부가 아프간에 파견한 2백명의 병력을 철수하고, 또 아프간 정부가 탈레반 수감자들을 석방하지 않을 경우 한국인 인질들을 살해하겠다고 위협해 왔습니다.
한국인 인질들은 한국의 교회에 소속된 선교 자원봉사자들로 이들은 지난 19일 아프간의 가즈니 주로 버스를 타고 이동하던 중 납치됐습니다.

Taleban militants holding 23 South Koreans in Afghanistan are demanding that Afghan authorities release eight Taleban prisoners in exchange for eight of the hostages.
A tribal elder representing Afghan and South Korean officials said today (Tuesday) the militants sent him a list of eight detainees they want freed.
A purported Taleban spokesman (Yousef Ahamdi) says negotiations over the 23 South Koreans are at a delicate stage. He says the proposed exchange of eight militants for eight hostages could be followed by further swaps.
Earlier today, a deadline set by the Taleban passed (at 1900 local time / 1430 UTC) with no word on the South Koreans' fate.
The kidnappers had threatened to kill the hostages unless South Korea agreed to pull its 200 troops from Afghanistan, and Afghan authorities released Taleban prisoners.
The 23 Christian aid workers were abducted Thursday as they were riding a bus through southeastern Afghanistan's Ghazni province.
