미국의 전력회사인 웨스팅하우스는 중국 동부 지방에 4개의 원자력 발전소를 건설하는 수 십억 달러 규모의 계약을 체결했습니다.
베이징 인민대궁전에서 24일 서명 기념식이 열린 뒤 계약 사실이 발표됐습니다. 당국자들은 정확한 계약 금액을 밝히지 않고 있지만, 적어도 53억 달러에 이를 것으로 추산되고 있습니다.
현재 중국에서는 적어도 10개의 원자력 발전소가 가동되고 있습니다. 중국은 해외 원유에 대한 의존도를 줄이기 위해 2020년까지 적어도 30개의 원자력 발전소 건설을 바라고 있습니다.
U.S.-based Westinghouse Electric Company has sealed a multi-billion dollar deal with
China to build four nuclear power plants in the eastern part of the country to help feed
the nation's massive needs for energy.
The deal was announced today (Tuesday) following a signing ceremony at Beijing's
Great Hall of the People. Officials did not release exact figures for the contract but the
project is estimated to be worth at least five-point-three billion dollars.
China currently has at least 10 working nuclear reactors. It hopes to build about 30 more by the year 2020 to reduce its reliance on foreign oil.
Westinghouse and its engineering partner (Shaw Group Incorporated) will build two
plants in northern Shandong province and two more in central Zhejiang province.
