A powerful bomb exploded in Pakistan's capital Islamabad today (Tuesday) at a rally for the country's suspended chief justice. At least 12 people were killed and 40 others wounded.
Police say the attack appears to have been a suicide bombing.
The suspended justice, Iftikhar Mohammed Chaudhry, had not yet arrived at the rally to address hundreds of his supporters when the bomb ripped through a stage set up for his speech.
Chaudhry was pulled from the bench earlier this year by Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf on charges of abuse of office. His removal has sparked nationwide protests against the government.
Meanwhile, attacks continued in Pakistan's border region of North Waziristan today (Tuesday) as the government tried to salvage a peace deal with pro-Taleban militants.
Three Pakistani soldiers and a civilian died after a suicide bomber blew himself up at a checkpoint.
The violence is the latest in a wave of militant attacks following the breakdown of a peace deal between the Pakistan government and pro-Taleban militants. More than 70 people have died over the past few days.
