The U.S. government is to release a new summary today (Tuesday) of intelligence reports about terrorist threats.
News reports before the official release of the National Intelligence Estimate say it concludes that al-Qaida has established a safe haven in tribal areas in northwest Pakistan, and that the terror group is a growing threat to the United States.
Last week, the head of the CIA's analysis directorate, John Kringen, told a congressional committee that al-Qaida seems "fairly well settled" in remote areas of Pakistan. He said there has been an increase in training, the flow of money and communications.
President Bush said last week that al-Qaida has been weakened but remains a threat to the United States.
However, U.S. officials say there is no credible, specific intelligence about any imminent terrorist threat against the United States.
