카메네이는 4일 행한 TV연설에서“괴롭힘을 가하는 세계 강대국들”에게 핵 개발 권리를 애걸하는 것은 자유롭고 독립적인 국가가 취할만한 노선이 아니라고 말했습니다.
이란은 국제조약에 따라 원자력 발전소에 핵원료를 공급하기 위해 우라늄을 농축할 권리가 있다고 주장하고 있습니다. 하지만 서방 국가들은 이란이 핵무기를 개발하고 있다고 비난하며, 이란은 권리 행사 이전에 전세계에 평화로운 의도를 확신시킬 필요가 있다고 주장하고 있습니다.
한편 유엔안전보장이사회는 이란이 우라늄 농축활동을 중단하지 않자 2차례의 제제를 가했습니다.

Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei says his country will not beg world powers to allow Iran to develop nuclear technology.
In a televised speech today (Monday), the ayatollah said begging "bullying world powers" for the right to have a nuclear program was "not the way of a free and independent nation."
Iran insists it has the right under international treaties to enrich uranium to make fuel for nuclear power plants. Western nations accuse Iran of developing nuclear weapons and say Tehran needs to convince the world of its peaceful intentions before it can exercise that right.
The U.N. Security Council has placed two rounds of sanctions on Iran since December for failing to halt enrichment.
