유럽을 순방중인 라이스 장관은 1일 스페인으로 향하던 중, 이란은 핵 무기 기술을 완성하기 위한 방편으로 협상을 이용해서는 안된다고 지적했습니다.
이보다 앞서, 유럽연합의 하비에르 솔라나 외교정책 대표와 이란의 알리 라리자니 수석 핵 협상대표는 31일 스페인 마드리드에서 만나 이란 핵 계획을 둘러싼 교착상태를 해소 방안을 논의했습니다. 솔라나 대표나 라리자니 대표 모두 회담에서 어떤 진전도 이뤄지지 않았음을 내비쳤고, 두 사람은 단지 자신들은 진전을 위한 구상들을 교환했다고 말했습니다. 두 사람은 2주일 후에 다시 만나기로 합의했습니다.

U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice says she sees no evidence of progress in talks between the European Union and Iran on ending the dispute over Iran's nuclear program.
Rice spoke today (Friday) while en route to Spain, as part of her European tour. She said Iran must not use the negotiations as cover for perfecting nuclear weapons technology.
Thursday, EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana and Iran's top nuclear negotiator, Ali Larijani, met in Madrid to discuss the standoff.
Neither Solana nor Larijani gave any indication of progress, saying only that they exchanged ideas aimed at moving the process forward. They agreed to meet again in two weeks.
Both men made similar comments after their previous round of talks on the issue, held in Turkey in late April.
