유럽연합의 하비에르 솔라나 외교정책 집행위원과 이란의 알리 라리자니 핵협상 수석대표가 31일 이란의 핵계획을 논의하기 위해 스페인 수도 마드리드에서 회담을 가질 예정입니다.
이번 회담에 앞서 솔라나 집행위원은 이란 핵 교착상태를 타개하기 위해 공식 협상을 재개할 계획이라고 밝혔습니다.
라리자니 수석대표는 우라늄 농축활동의 중단이 분쟁을 해결할 수 있는 유일한 방법은 아니라고 말했습니다.
이에 앞서 콘돌리자 라이스 미국 국무장관은 이제는 이란이 핵문제에 대한 그들의 전술을 바꿔야 할 때가 됐다고 말했습니다. 라이스 장관은 빈에서 기자들에게 국제사회는 이란이 핵무기를 추구하지 않는다는 것을 보여주기를 바라고 있다고 말했습니다.

European Union foreign policy chief Javier Solana and Iran's top nuclear negotiator Ali Larijani are meeting today (Thursday) to discuss Iran's nuclear program.
Ahead of the talks in Madrid, Solana said he is aiming to restart formal negotiations in an attempt to resolve the nuclear standoff.
Larijani has said suspension of uranium enrichment activity is not a way to resolve the dispute.
Earlier today, U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said it is time for Iran to change its tactics on the nuclear issue.
Speaking to reporters in Vienna, Rice said the international community wants Iran to demonstrate that it is not seeking a nuclear weapon.
Despite limited U.N. sanctions and a possibility of a tougher penalties, Tehran has continued to ignore U.N. demands to stop its uranium enrichment -- a process that can be used to make nuclear weapons.
