이라크수도, 바그다드 서쪽, 팔루자시에서 오늘(30일) 저항세력의 박격포 공격으로 적어도 5명이 숨지고 15명이 다쳤다고 이라크 치안 당국이 밝혔습니다.
이라크 치안당국은 이번 박격포 공격이 당초 미군 기지를 표적으로 했으나 대신 주택가에 떨어진 것으로 보인다고 말했습니다.
미 연합군은 바그다드의 회교 시아파 주요 거점지역인 사드르 시티에서 이란으로부터 폭탄 등 무기 수입에 관여한 혐의를 받고 있는 한 무장조직의 전투원 6명을 체포. 구금했습니다.
이런 가운데 이라크의 호샤르 제바리 외무장관은 29일 바그다드에서 납치된 5명의 영국인들은 시아파 마흐디 민병대가 납치한 것이 거의 확실해 보인다며 아마도 현지 경찰이 납치를 지원한 것으로 보인다고 말했습니다.
한편 미 연합군은 30일 이라크 북부 쿠르드족 거주지역인 3개주에 대한 치안권을 이라크군에 넘겼습니다.

Iraqi security officials say mortar attacks have killed at least five people and wounded
15 others in Fallujah, west of Baghdad.
Officials say the mortar rounds today (Wednesday) apparently targeted a U.S. military
base, but landed in residential areas instead.
In Baghdad's mainly Shi'ite Sadr City neighborhood, coalition forces detained six
suspects believed to be members of a cell involved in importing roadside bombs and
weapons from Iran.
Meanwhile, Iraq's Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari says Tuesday's abduction of five
British citizens in Baghdad was most likely the work of the Shi'ite Mahdi Army militia,
probably assisted by local police.
Gunmen in police uniforms kidnapped the five -- four British guards employed by a
Canadian-based firm (GardaWorld) and one client -- during a raid on an Iraqi Finance
Ministry building.
Separately, coalition forces handed over security responsibilities for three Iraqi
provinces in the northern Kurdish region to Iraqi authorities.
