아프가니스탄 남부도시 칸다하르에서 발생한 사제 폭탄 공격으로, 아프가니스탄 군과 함께 순찰 중이던 캐나다 군인 1명이 숨졌습니다.
현지 캐나다 군 부사령관은 숨진 군인이 폭력이 잦은 남부 지역의 치안 확보를 위해 아프가니스탄 군인을 훈련시키는 임무를 수행하고 있었다고 말했습니다.
캐나다군은 이번 공격으로 아프가니스탄 정부와 주민들에 대한 캐나다의 협력이 중단되지는 않을 것이라고 말했습니다.
아프가니스탄에서 숨진 캐나다 군인 수는 55명이 됐습니다. 지난해에는 캐나다 외교관이 자살 폭탄테러에 희생되기도 했습니다.
캐나다는 나토군 소속으로 아프가니스탄에 파견돼있습니다.

An improvised bomb has killed a Canadian soldier on a joint patrol with Afghan troops near the southern city of Kandahar.
The deputy commander of Canadian forces in Afghanistan, Mike Cessford, says the soldier was part of a team that is training Afghan troops to establish security in the volatile south.
Colonel Cessford also says the attack will not stop Canada from working closely with the government and the people of Afghanistan.
Today's (Friday's) fatality brings the total number of Canadian troops lost in Afghanistan to 55. A Canadian diplomat was killed in a suicide bombing last year.
Canada has deployed troops to Afghanistan to serve with the NATO mission there.
