인도네시아의 보건부관리들은 한 여성이 조류독감으로 사망했다고 발표했습니다. 이로써 인도네시아 내 조류독감으로 인한 사망자는 75명으로 늘어났습니다.
관리들은 7일 실험실 결과로 사망한 여인이 인간에게 치명적인 H5N1 조류독감 바이러스에 감염됐음이 확인됐다고 말했습니다.
인도네시아는 지금까지 세계에서 가장 많은 조류독감 감염 사망 사례를 보고했습니다. 인도네시아에는 수백만명이 닭이나 그밖의 가금류들을 집 뒷마당에서 사육하고 있어 조류독감이 널리 퍼져있습니다.
국제보건기구는 지금까지 2003년 아시아 지역에 조류독감이 재출연한 이래, 조류독감으로 인한 사망자 수는 172명에 이른다고 말했습니다.

Indonesia has reported more bird flu deaths than any other nation. World Health Organization officials have only confirmed 63 deaths in the country.
The bird flu virus is widespread among poultry in many parts of Indonesia, where millions of people keep a few chickens or other domesticated birds in their yards.
The W.H.O. says bird flu has killed 172 people worldwide since it re-emerged in Asia in 2003.
