캐나다와 한국의 자유무역협정 논의가 곧 결론에 도달할 것이라고, 캐나다 외무장관이 말했습니다.
서울을 방문중인 피터 맥케이 장관은 2일 기자회견에서 이같이 밝히고 캐나다산 쇠고기에 대한 한국의 수입금지 조치도 곧 해제될 것이라고 말했습니다.
한국은 2003년 미국과 캐나다에서 광우병이 발견된 후, 양국으로부터 쇠고기 수입을 금지했었습니다.
맥케이 장관은 국제동물보건기구가 5월말까지 캐나다 쇠고기의 안전성에 대한 결론을 내릴 것이라고 덧붙였습니다.
캐나다와 한국은 2005년 7월부터 자유무역협상을 벌여왔습니다.

Canada's foreign minister says talks with South Korea on free trade should soon conclude with an agreement.
Peter MacKay made the comment Wednesday during a press conference in the capital, Seoul.
The foreign minister also says a ban on Canadian beef could soon be lifted.
South Korea suspended Canadian and U.S. beef imports in 2003 after cases of mad cow disease in the two countries.
MacKay said the World Organization for Animal Health will decide on the safety of Canadian beef by the end of May.
Canadian and South Korean officials began free trade talks in July 2005.
