미국 정부가 성공적이었다고 자평한 7개의 이라크 재건 계획이 설계대로 더 이상 가동되지 못하고 있는 것으로 미국 특별감사관실의 감사 결과 드러났다고 미국 굴지의 두 신문들이 보도했습니다.
뉴욕타임스 신문과 워싱턴 포스트 신문은 29일 8개의 이라크 재건 계획을 감사한 결과 7개의 계획이 유지 보수 미흡과 배관 공사나 전기 공사의 부실 등으로 고가의 장비가 쓸모 없어지고 있다고 지적했습니다.
미국 정부는 앞서 이라크 재건 계획들 가운데 일부 계획이 무용지물이 되고 있다는 점을 시인했으나 정부에 의해 성공적이었다고 선포된 재건 계획들이 더 이상 적절하게 가동되지 못하고 있다는 것을 감사관들이 발견한 것은 이번이 처음이라고 이들 신문은 덧붙였습니다.
이번 감사 결과는 30일 특별감사관실의 보고서를 통해 공개될 예정입니다.

Two leading U.S. newspapers report American auditors have found that seven Iraq reconstruction projects declared successes by the U.S. government are no longer operating as designed.
"The New York Times" and "The Washington Post" report today (Sunday) that out of eight projects inspected, seven were suffering from things such as lack of proper maintenance, electrical and plumbing problems, or expensive equipment going unused.
Washington has previously acknowledged that some of its reconstruction projects in Iraq have been abandoned, but the newpapers say this is the first time inspectors found that projects declared a success were no longer working properly.
A summary of the conclusions will be released Monday in a report by the Office of the Special Inspector General for Iraq Reconstruction.
