유럽연합의 하비에르 솔라나 외교정책 대표와 이란의 알리 라리자니 핵협상 대표는 25일 터키에서 이란의 핵 문제에 관한 협상재개 문제를 논의할 예정입니다.
터키 수도 앙카라에서 열리는 이번 회담은 유엔 안전보장이사회가 이란의 우라늄 농축활동 중단 요구 거부를 문제삼아 2차 제재결의안을 채택한 이래 유럽연합과 이란 사이에 처음 열리는 양자접촉입니다.
이번 회동을 앞두고 일각에서는 미국과 다른 관련 동맹국들이 이란의 핵 재처리 작업을 일부 용인하는 타협안에 합의할 것이라는 관측이 나오고 있습니다.
그러나 미국 국무부의 곤잘로 갈레고스 대변인은 24일 이란의 우라늄 농축활동에 대한 미국의 정책에는 변함이 없다고 말했습니다. 갈레고스 대변인은 이란은 민수용 핵 계획은 보유할 수 있으나 원자로를 위한 연료는 해외에서 농축돼야 한다고 말했습니다.

European Union foreign policy chief Javier Solana and Iran's chief nuclear negotiator Ali Larijani are preparing to hold talks today (Wednesday) aimed at bringing Tehran back to negotiations on its nuclear program.
The meeting in Ankara, Turkey, would be the first face-to-face talks between the two since the United Nations approved a second set of sanctions against Iran in March, after Tehran refused to halt its uranium enrichment.
The meeting comes amid widespread speculation that Washington and its partners dealing with the issue could agree to a compromise deal, allowing Iran to maintain some of its nuclear reprocessing work.
But a U.S. State Department spokesman (Gonzalo Gallegos) said Tuesday there is no change in U.S. policy on Iran's uranium enrichment activities. The spokesman said Iran can have a civilian nuclear program, but that fuel for its power reactors must be enriched abroad.
