크렘린 당국자들은 옐친 전 대통령의 시신이 안장되기 전까지 모스크바의 한 성당에 안치될 것이라고 밝혔습니다.
지난 1991년 대통령 선거에서 승리한 옐친 전 대통령은 러시아에서 처음으로 직접 선거에 의해 선출된 대통령이었습니다.
그 해 8월, 옐친 전 대통령은 구 소련 지도자 미하일 고르바초프에 대항하는 강경파 공산주의자들의 쿠데타 기도를 저지했습니다. 그 후 옐친 전 대통령이 추진한 정책들은 그 해 12월의 소련의 해체로 이어졌습니다.
옐친 전 대통령은 1996년 대통령 재선에 성공했지만, 건강 문제로 1999년 말에 사임했습니다. 옐친 전 대통령은 현 푸틴 대통령에게 권력을 이양했습니다.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has designated Wednesday as a day of mourning for former President Boris Yeltsin, who died Monday in Moscow at the age of 76.
Kremlin officials say Mr. Yeltsin's body will lie in state in Moscow (at the Christ the Savior Cathedral) before burial (in Novodevichy Cemetery, also in the capital).
Mr. Yeltsin was the first popularly elected president of the Soviet republic of Russia, winning office in 1991.
In August that year, he defied a coup attempt by hard-line communists against Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev. Mr. Yeltsin then pursued policies that led to the dissolution of the Soviet Union that December.
Mr. Yeltsin won re-election as Russia's president in 1996 but health problems led to his resignation at the end of 1999. He handed power to current President Vladimir Putin.
