전 세계 노동조합들은 버마의 민주주의 지도자인 아웅산 수치 여사의 석방을 위해 협력 투쟁을 벌이기로 했습니다.
40여개에 달하는 직능별 노동조합들은 버마 카트만두에서 열린 회의에서 아웅산 수치 여사와 다른 정치범들에 대한 구금을 비난했습니다.
노벨상 수상자인 아웅산 수치 여사는 17년 가까이 가택연금 상태로 집에 갇혀 있습니다. 버마 군사 정권은 수치 여사 외에도 1천100명의 정치범을 가뒀습니다.
한편 이들 조합은 또 버마에서 민주주의가 실현되고 강제노동이 사라질 때까지, 다국적 기업들의 투자 중단을 촉구하기로 했습니다.

Labor unions from around the globe have agreed to work together to fight for the release of Burmese pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi, who is under house arrest.
Nearly 40 trade unions, at a conference on Burma in Katmandu this week, condemned the detention of Aung San Suu Kyi and other political prisoners.
Aung San Suu Kyi -- a Nobel laureate -- has spent most of the past 17 years under house arrest, and Burma's military leaders are holding at least 11-hundred political prisoners.
The trade unions also said they will urge multi-national companies to halt investment in Burma until democracy is established and forced labor is eradicated.
