U.S. Senator John McCain has made an unannounced visit to Iraq, where he says progress is being made.
McCain says the new U.S. strategy of sending more forces to Iraq is working and gives reason to be optimistic.
The Republican senator and presidential candidate visited Baghdad today (Sunday) with a congressional delegation, including Senator Lindsey Graham.
Graham says the U.S. is now doing what it should have done from the start by having enough forces on the ground in Iraq. He added that Iraqi officials believe the new strategy is working.
On Saturday, the United Nations refugee agency said it will increase its presence in Iraq to provide assistance to Iraqis who have fled their homes. The U.N. mission in Iraq was cut back after a 2003 bombing at U.N. headquarters in Iraq killed 22 people.
