A top U.S. counterintelligence official says Russia's espionage efforts against the United States have reached Cold War levels.
The head of the Office of National Counterintelligence Executive, Joel Brenner, said that Russia is sending over an increasing and troubling number of intelligence agents into the United States.
Brenner said Russia has been, in his words, "reeling from being one of the world's great superpowers to being something very different and trying to build themselves up."
His remarks come at a time of increased tension between the U.S. and Russia. Last month, Russian President Vladimir Putin accused the United States of increasing the danger to world security by overstepping its national borders.
