한국의 수도 서울에서는 일요일인 25일 수천여명이 한-미 자유무역협정 (FTA) 체결에 반대하는 거리시위를 벌였습니다.
시위 관계자들은 1만여명이 참가했다고 주장하는 반면 경찰은 시위 참가자 수를 7천명 정도로 추산했습니다.
이번 시위에는 노동조합원들과 농부, 학생 등이 참가했으며 이들은 한국 정부가 미국과의 자유무역협정 체결을 중단할 것을 촉구했습니다.
이들은 자유무역협정 체결로 값싼 미국 상품이 한국에 수입될 경우 많은 한국인들이 일자리를 잃게 될 것이라고 주장하고 있습니다.
한편 한-미 두 나라는 이달 말을 협정 체결 시한으로 잡고 내일부터 자동차와 섬유, 의약품, 농업 등 핵심현안들을 타결하기 위한 막바지 협상을 시작합니다.

Thousands of South Korean activists have demonstrated in Seoul against free trade talks with the United States.
Organizers say about 10-thousand people took part in today's (Sunday's) rally, while police estimate the turnout at around seven-thousand.
The labor unionists, farmers, students and other activists called on South Korea's government to stop the trade talks. The protesters fear an influx of cheaper U.S. goods would lead to job losses for South Koreans.
U.S. and South Korean negotiators are due to meet again in Seoul. Differences remain in a number of sectors, including automobiles, textiles, pharmaceuticals and farm products.
Washington wants to complete the talks by March 31st so that President Bush can get quick approval of a deal in Congress. His authority to "fast track" such agreements expires July 1st.
