라이스 장관은 이번 순방을 통해 이스라엘-팔레스타인 평화회담에 대한 아랍권의 지지를 규합하게 되기를 바란다고 말했습니다.
라이스 장관은 이날 이집트, 사우디 아라비아, 요르단, 아랍에미리트연합 등 아랍 4개 당사국의 외무장관과 정보부장들과 회담하기 위해 이집트의 아스완으로 갑니다.
션 매코맥 국무부 대변인은 라이스장관이 2002년 아랍연맹이 제시한 평화계획을 촉진하기 위해 아랍국가들을 격려할 계획이라고 말했습니다.

An Iranian military commander says 15 British Navy personnel in Iran's custody have admitted to illegally entering Iranian waters.
In interviews with Iranian media today (Saturday), General Ali Reza Afshar said the British detainees offered, in his words, "confessions during interrogations." He said they agreed they were in Iranian territory when they were seized.
The general said interrogations are continuing in Tehran, and that the 15 Royal sailors and marines are in good health.
The European Union today (Saturday) echoed Britain's demand for the immediate release of the 15.
Iran's navy detained the crew Friday after the British conducted a routine inspection of a merchant ship in the disputed Shatt al-Arab waterway between Iran and Iraq.
Iranian officials say there is proof that the crew knew they were in Iranian waters. The Iranian call it an "aggressive action."
Britain insists its navy was conducting routine anti-smuggling operations in Iraqi waters.
