이라크에서 여러 자살폭탄 테러공격 사건이 발생한 후 3백50명이 유독성 염소가스에 노출돼 치료를 받았다고 미군이 밝혔습니다.
미군 관계자들은 17일 바그다드 서쪽 팔룰라에서 자살폭탄 테러범들이 유독성 염소가스가 든 폭발물을 폭발시킨 사건이 최소한 두 차례 일어났다고 밝혔습니다.
이 과정에서 경찰관 두 명이 숨진 것으로 알려졌습니다.
염소 가스에 노출되면 피부에 화상을 입고 심할 경우 목숨을 잃을 수 있습니다.
지난달 이라크 주둔 미군 고위 지휘관은 저항세력이 이라크에 불안정을 가져오기 위한 노력의 일환으로 염소가스가 든 폭탄을 사용하고 있다고 밝혔습니다.
한편 이라크 주둔 미군은 연합군이 두 차례 급습작전을 벌여 테러 혐의자 18명을 체포했다고 밝혔습니다.
미군은 17일 아침 바그다드 동북쪽 발라드 인근에서 벌어진 작전에서 12명이 체포됐다고 밝혔습니다.
연합군은 또한 도로변 폭탄과 여러가지 종류의 총기, 로켓추진식 수류탄 발사기, 수류탄을 압류했습니다.
미군은 또한 17일 바그다드 서쪽 팔룰라에서 외군인 용병 지원조직을 목표로 한 작전에서 6명을 체포했다고 말했습니다.
이라크 당국은 바그다드 남부 힐라와 이라크 북부 모술에서 도로변 폭탄테러로 경찰관 2명이 숨지고 3명이 다쳤다고 밝혔습니다.

The U.S. military says about 350 people are being treated for exposure to toxic chlorine gas, following multiple suicide bombings in Iraq.
Officials say at least two suicide bombers in Fallujah today (Saturday) detonated explosives that contained the deadly chemical. Two policemen were reported killed in the bombings.
Chlorine burns the skin and can be fatal.
Last month, a top U.S. military commander in Iraq warned that insurgents have begun using bombs with chlorine gas as part of a campaign to create instability in the war-torn country.
Meanwhile, the U.S. military said coalition forces in Iraq captured 18 suspected militants in two separate raids. Officials said 12 suspects were detained early today in a raid near Balad, northeast of Baghdad. Coalition forces also seized roadside bombs, a variety of firearms, rocket propelled grenade launchers and grenades.
In other violence, Iraqi authorities say two policemen were killed and three others wounded in roadside bomb attacks in Hillah, south of Baghdad, and in Mosul, in the northern part of the country.
