중국 남부 후난성에서 공공 교통요금 인상에 항의하는 주민들의 폭동이 발생해 적어도 시위 학생 1 명이 사망했습니다.
중국 지역 관리들과 인권 운동가들은 버스 요금 폭등에 항의하는 시위가 지난 9일 처음 시작돼 12일 시위 인파가 학생과 농민 등 2만명으로 늘어났다고 말했습니다.
후난성 쥬샨에서 발생한 이번 시위를 진압하기 위해 공안 병력 1천 5백명이 시위 현장에 배치됐습니다. 목격자들은 경찰이 시위대와 거리를 지나던 행인들을 경찰봉과 전기 봉으로 구타했다고 말했습니다.
시위대는 경찰의 강경대응에 항의해 경찰 차량 적어도 9 대를 방화했습니다.
지역 관리들은 지난달 춘절 이후 공공 버스 요금이 두 배 가까이 폭등하자 주민들이 크게 분노했다고 말하고 있습니다.

Reports from China say at least one student is dead after a riot in Hunan province over the rising cost of public transportation.
Officials and human rights activists say the protest against higher bus fees started Friday and grew to about 20-thousand villagers, students and farmers by Monday.
At least 15-hundred police were deployed to control the crowd in southern Hunan's Zhushan village (part of the city of Yongzhou). Witnesses say police beat demonstrators and passersby with batons and electric prods.
Demonstrators set fire to at least nine police vehicles.
Officials say protesters are angry because the cost of public bus travel has nearly doubled since the Lunar New Year last month.
