부시 대통령은 6일 일정의 중남미 순방 시작을 하루 앞둔 7일 중남미 지역 신문들에 게재된 대담에서 이같이 말했습니다. 부시 대통령은 쿠바에서 카스트로 의장이 공산주의 정권을 강제로 출범시켰다고 말했습니다.
부시 대통령은 쿠바인들이 카스트로 의장의 사망 이후 새로운 형태의 정부로 전환하기를 희망한다고 말했습니다.
카스트로 의장은 지난 해 7월 장출혈로 수술을 받은 뒤 동생인 라울 카스트로 국방장관에게 권력을 이양한 바 있습니다. 부시 대통령은 앞으로 일주 일정으로 브라질, 우루과이, 콜롬비아, 과테말라, 그리고 멕시코를 방문할 예정입니다.

On the eve of his six-day tour of Latin America, President Bush says the people of Cuba should decide what form of government to support after the death of their President Fidel Castro.
In interviews published in Latin America today (Wednesday), Mr. Bush said Mr. Castro has "imposed" his Communist government on Cuba. He said he hopes Cubans transition to a new type of government after Mr. Castro's death.
Mr. Castro transferred power to his brother, Defense Minister Raul Castro, after having intestinal surgery in July.
President Bush will travel to Brazil, Uruguay, Colombia, Guatemala, and Mexico over the next week. He has said the United States will support initiatives to strengthen government institutions in the region, assist in education and health care, and improve the countries' economies.
