잘마이 칼릴자드 이라크 주재 미국 대사는 미국이 10일 바그다드에서 열릴 한 회의에서 이란과 직접 대화를 가질 수도 있다고 말했습니다.
칼릴자드 대사는 미국 CNN-TV에 출연해 미국과 이란간 양자 회담이 열릴 경우 이는 오로지 이라크 저항분자들을 위한 이란의 무기 이전 설에만 초점이 맞춰질 것이라고 말했습니다. 미국은 이란제 폭발물에 의해 이라크 주둔 미군 병사들이 사망하고 있다고 말해왔습니다.
칼릴자드 대사는 오는 10일 바그다드에서 열릴 회의에서는 자신이 미국 대표로 참가할 것이라고 덧붙였습니다. 이 회의에는 이라크 인접 국가들과 유엔안전보장이사회 5개 상임 이사국 대표들이 초청됐습니다.

The U.S. ambassador to Iraq, Zalmay Khalilzad, says the United States might hold direct talks with Iran at an upcoming meeting in Baghdad.
Speaking on American television (CNN), Khalilzad said bilateral talks, if they do occur, will focus solely on allegations of Iranian arms transfers to Iraqi insurgents. The United States says Iranian-made explosives are killing U.S. soldiers in Iraq.
Khalilzad said he will represent the U.S. at the March 10 meeting. Iraq's neighbors and the five permanent members of the U.N. Security Council are invited.
Khalilzad said he does not know who will represent Tehran.
In Iran today (Sunday), the foreign ministry spokesman (Mohammad Ali Husseini) said talking with the U.S. on the sidelines of the Baghdad conference is not on Iran's agenda.
