미국 당국자들은 미국과 영국, 프랑스, 중국, 러시아 등 5개 안보리 상임이사국과 독일의 대표들이 지난 1일 전화 협의를 통해 핵심적인 요소들에 합의했다고 밝혔습니다.
당국자들은 아직까지 남아 있는 핵심적인 문제들이 3일 해결될 것으로 예상한다고 말했습니다.
다음 주에 결의안 초안이 15개 안보리 전체 이사국에 회람될 것으로 예상되고 있습니다.
미국은 부시 행정부는 가능한 한 빨리 이란 핵 계획에 관한 결의안이 채택되기를 바라고 있음에도 불구하고, 신속한 합의를 위해 허약한 결의안과 타협하지는 않을 것이라고 말했습니다.
이란은 지난 달 21일 까지 우라늄 농축을 중단하지 않을 경우 새로운 제재에 직면할 것이라는 유엔 안보리의 요구를 무시했습니다.

The permanent members of the U.N. Security Council will try today (Saturday) to finalize agreement on new sanctions against Iran for refusing to stop enriching uranium.
U.S. officials say representatives of the United States, Britain, France, China and France, along with Germany, agreed on "the major elements" in a conference call Thursday. Officials say they expect the key remaining issues to be resolved today.
A draft resolution for consideration by the entire 15-member Council is expected next week.
Washington says although the Bush administration wants a resolution on Iran's nuclear program as soon as possible, it will not settle for a weak one in order to get a quick agreement.
